Senior Mechanical Engineer
Full-time · Onsite · Greater Boston
We are building entirely new ways to produce complex physical goods. This role is not product maintenance or incremental improvement — you will help architect equipment, tooling, and scalable processes from first principles and bring them from prototype to production.
This is a hands-on, ownership-heavy position working directly with the company founder. The right person enjoys operating with ambiguity, designing quickly, testing aggressively, and solving problems that do not yet have established solutions.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design and develop new mechanical systems
Build and iterate functional prototypes rapidly
Create fixtures, tooling, and production hardware
Translate early concepts into repeatable processes
Work across materials, motion systems, thermal processes, and production constraints
Debug failures and improve reliability through testing and analysis
Participate in supplier selection and manufacturing scale-up
Help define engineering standards and future team structure
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
5+ years mechanical engineering experience; startup or advanced manufacturing environment strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience building real hardware that shipped or scaled
Strong CAD proficiency and tolerance analysis capability
Experience with mechanisms, motion systems, or automation equipment
Comfort working in a lab or shop environment and building your own designs
Ability to move between concept design and hands-on execution
Practical judgment and bias toward action
PARTICULARLY RELEVANT BACKGROUNDS
Production equipment design
Automation or robotics hardware
Tooling and fixturing
Additive or novel manufacturing processes
High-volume consumer goods manufacturing
Process scale-up from prototype to manufacturing
PERSONAL TRAITS
Curious and pragmatic
Comfortable with uncertainty
Strong ownership mentality
Collaborative and low ego
Motivated by building something new
Competitive salary plus meaningful founding-team equity participation.
To apply, send your resume and a brief description of a system, machine, or process you personally designed and built.
